Two Valley Residents Appointed to State Councils

Last month, Gov. M. Jodi Rell appointed two Valley residents to two state councils.

Stacey L. D’Angelo, of Shelton, was named a member of the Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities.

And Cathleen M. Adamczyk, of Ansonia, was named as a member of the Family Support Council as an individual who advocates for children with disabilities.

Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities

The Council on Developmental Disabilities funds initiatives designed to create opportunities for inclusion in community life, reduce dependence on government services and restore citizen control over programs. Its mission is to promote the full inclusion of all people with disabilities in community life.

Stacey brings a parent’s perspective to this panel,” Rell said in a written statement. Her spirit and passion for helping others will benefit this Council and the State of Connecticut. I thank her for her willingness to serve.”

D’Angelo is an active member of North Star Support Group, a support group for families who have children with disabilities. She is currently attending Southern Connecticut University and plans to earn a degree in early childhood education and psychology.

Family Support Council

The Family Support Council is a legislatively established partnership of parents and professionals working to improve supports for families of children with disabilities.

In addition to being a job coach for students with Disabilities in the Ansonia School District, Adamczyk serves as an Advocacy Training Coordinator and research assistant at the University of Connecticut A.J. Pappanikou Center For Developmental Disabilities.

She is the founder of the North Star Parent Support/Resource Group and she serves on the Autism Spectrum Resource Center’s board of directors.

Cathy’s commitment to improving opportunities for young people with disabilities is widely recognized, and I know she will be an excellent addition to this panel,” Rell said in a written statement. Her work is helping to improve the quality of life in our state. I thank her for her service.”

Adamczyk will serve for a term ending September 30, 2014, or until a successor is appointed and has qualified, whichever is longer.
