United Iluminating Employees Raise Funds For Veterans’ Organizations

In observance of Veterans Day, employees at UIL Holdings Corporation (NYSE: UIL) and its operating companies, The United Illuminating Company, The Southern Connecticut Gas Company, Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation and The Berkshire Gas wanted to show their support for veterans with more than a remembrance and a thank you.

They wanted to give something back.

UILs Employee Volunteer Council sponsored a basket raffle fundraiser where council members donated items and created baskets that were raffled at each operating company. The employee driven fundraiser raised $2,795.00.

Today, employees from UIL presented the Connecticut chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart with a check at their Derby office located at 1 Atwater Avenue, Derby, CT. The Derby office is the first chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart to be established in Connecticut.

This year we wanted to show our thanks to veterans for their service by doing something new,” said Shelly Saczynski, director of community & economic development. I’m very pleased with the results of our employee’s efforts for this fundraiser.”

All funds raised will benefit the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Connecticut and Soldier On in Massachusetts.

The organizations will purchase gift cards to Stop & Shop and other retail stores, as well as buy and distribute supplies to veterans and their families in need.
