United Way Sponsors Finance Workshops

Valley United Way is instituting a periodic series of workshops and seminars designed to help individuals and families with financial planning.

United Way is partnering with leading experts in all areas of economic importance to provide the free series of programs.

The first sessions in the series will be hosted by Barnum Financial at their offices at 6 Corporate Drive in Shelton.

The first program on October 22 will focus on the importance and benefits of financial planning.

A week later on October 29 there will be a second program designed for people in their 20s and 30s on the typical financial decision that they would typically be dealing with at that time.

On November 19, Thomas Sutnik, a former judge of probate speak, on estate planning.

Future topics in the series will include buying a home, planning for college, retirement planning and Social Security among others. All of the programs are designed to provide individuals and families with the information that they need to guide their own financial planning.

United Way President & C.O.O. Jack Walsh said that United Way is starting the program because of the swift and dramatic changes that have taken place in the country’s economy in recent years creating a need for people to have the tools that they need to make informed decisions to safeguard and strengthen their own financial futures.

In these uncertain times, it is more important than ever for individuals and families to be in a position to make their own decisions on what is best for their finances, and these programs will help them with the issues that we all face on a daily basis,” he said.

Though the programs are free thanks to the support of Newtown Savings Bank and the program presenters, registration is required and may be made by visiting Valley United Way’s website (valleyunitedway.org) or calling Valley United Way (203 926‑9478).
