A fire at a vacant house on Soundview Avenue was caused by an electrical problem, Fire Marshal James Tortora said.
The fire, reported at about 3 p.m. July 14, was at a guest house type-structure behind a main house at 82 Soundview Ave.
There were no injuries.
“The cause of the fire was a failure of an electrical feed from the other house,” Tortora said.
The homeowner was planning to renovate the empty house. At one point in the house’s history, there were two electrical sources to the structure, Tortora said.
“They thought they had disconnected both sources, but one was still live,” Tortora said. The aging underground wire supplying power to the house failed, sparking a fire on an exterior wall.
The fire has been determined unintentional, Tortora said.
The fire badly damaged the house, taking out the garage doors and a large section of the roof.
