DERBY — Ronté Byrd, a 2011 Derby High School graduate and current coach of the freshman basketball team at Amity High School, has organized an alumni Valley basketball tournament scheduled for Saturday, July 3. The following info was sent to The Valley Indy:
The CBT Valley Alumni Basketball Tournament will take place 12 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at Derby Middle School, 73 Chatfield St.
It will be hosted by Ronté Byrd of Derby, owner of Coach Byrd Training LLC, along with help from his fiancé, family, friends, and local sponsors.
While Ronté’s schedule is filled with individual and group basketball training sessions, an event that brings the Valley together as a whole has always been an aspiration of Coach Byrd.
Alumni from Ansonia, Derby, Seymour, and Shelton will be participating.
This family-friendly event will include a DJ, refreshments, raffles, and more!
Canned good and hygiene item donations will be collected at the door and donated to a church in Derby. Anyone attending is encouraged to wear CBT apparel if they have any or can pick up some at the event.
Coach Byrd hopes for this to be an annual event and for the younger generation to look forward to participating in it one day.
