VALLEY ARTS COUNCIL GEARS UP FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

The Valley Arts Council has been busy preparing for the upcoming holiday season with several area events the group is sponsoring or helping to support.

The event will feature the work of photographer and VAC member Nichell Delvaille, as well as, artwork by the VAC membership.

The Derby Cultural Commission will host its ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY on Friday, November 27th beginning at 6:30pm and The Derby Historical Society will conduct its CHURCHES BY LANTERN PROGRAM at 5:30pm sharp. Using its signature punched-tin lanterns, participants will start at Immanuel St. James Episcopal Church, which will open at 5:00 PM. The tour will start there, and will also visit Derby United Methodist Church and the Church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, before ending at the Second Congregational Church, coinciding with the tree lighting on the Derby Green. A history of the churches will be given at each stop, and Christmas carols will be played on each church’s unique organ.

Tickets are $10 each, $8 for children 5 to 15. Although tickets will be sold at Immanuel St. James before the event, it is recommended that reservations be made in advance, due to the popularity of the event.
