Valley Arts Council Gets A Grant

The Valley Arts Council will expand its outreach to the community with grant funding from the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism.

The arts council, which recently opened a gallery downtown in a building formerly occupied by the Spooner House homeless shelter, will build its services, network and capacity with the grant of $6,200, said Rich DiCarlo, president of the council. He announced the grant this week.

The tourism commission asked the arts council to inform local political leaders of accomplishments the award will make possible in the way of cultural leadership services and programs, including a boost to the local economy and benefits to education.

The arts board also expects to build cultural tourism and develop the work force.
