It’s Saturday morning, and the Valley first week of the 2009 – 2010 football season is over.
Here’s a look at what how it shook out over the Internet.
NVL FOOTBALL BLOG
Over at the NVL Football Blogosphere, everyone is impressed with Ansonia’s Robert Kinnebrew.
“I just like the way Kinnebrew stepped-in and ran HARD. Like get-out-of-my-way-before-I-run-over-you hard,” says Remmy, a regular contributor to that blog.
You can read Steve Fainer’s great story on the game here.
(A huge thank you to Brian Barreto for allowing the Valley Indy to use a video and photos he captured at the game)
Sean Patrick Bowley
Ya think the CT Post’s high school football guru is happy the season is underway?
Bowley had a good write up this week on our favorite football story of the week — Oxford’s first varsity football win.
Joe Palladino
I had the pleasure of sharing a sauna (otherwise known as the Derby press box) last night with Joe Palladino, the Republican’s veteran sports scribe.
He has a nice piece this morning touching upon Derby and St. Paul’s entrance into the Naugatuck Valley League.
Palladino’s post-game questioning of St. Paul coach Jude Kelly elicited a great comment about the history behind the Leo Ryan Athletic Complex.
Watch the video to hear the comment and be sure to read Melvin Mason’s game story.
I’m assuming Derby folks are happy to see the Red Raiders back in the NVL, despite last night’s loss.
Dave Solomon
How’s this for an opening sentence?
“The rivalry predates the forward pass, and neither the Hillhouse nor Ansonia High head coaches were born the last time these ancient and esteemed Connecticut high school football programs met on the field of play.”
Those are the words of New Haven Register sports columnist Dave Solomon, referring to Friday night’s Ansonia-Hillhouse.
