The Valley Independent Sentinel was incorrect to state that members of the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) opted not to endorse Jeanne Loda for another term on the Board of Education.
The DTC did not endorse anyone. She was nominated by the DTC along with all other candidates on the slate presented. A Democratic caucus is made up of any registered Democrat in the city or town in which a caucus is being held.
In Seymour there were two open slots for BOE to be voted upon and four names were nominated on the slate presented to the Democratic caucus.
There were Kristen Hermeling, Saundra Gesek, Judy Flood and Jeanne Loda. Mrs. Flood and Mrs. Loda received the lowest votes by the registered voters at the Democratic caucus and where thereby eliminated from the two available slots.
It was the caucus, not the DTC, who chose the candidates.
The author is a member of the Democratic Town Committee.
