Valley Indy Teams With Ever Ready Press To Produce Newsletter

ETHAN FRY PHOTONot a fan of the Valley Indy?

Now you’ll finally have the chance to line the bottom of your bird cage with our reporting!

That’s right, the Valley Indy is publishing on something called paper.”

Thanks to Frank and Andrew Halpin at Ever Ready Press on Clifton Avenue in Ansonia, we’ll publish a 4‑page newsletter once a week.

Our hope is to reach people — specifically, senior citizens in Ansonia and Derby — who don’t use the web to read local news.

The idea came out of a conversation I had with John Ready of the Valley Community Foundation about the Valley’s changing demographics.

A report sponsored by the foundation shows that the number of seniors in our community is growing.

At the same time, traditional media outlets, such as The Valley Times in Derby, are going away.

I can’t tell you how many seniors called the Valley Indy asking where their paper was after The Valley Gazette stopped publishing on paper last year. So we know there is a need.

We don’t plan to change the universe with a newsletter. If you read ValleyIndy.org, you’ve already seen the stories. We’re only printing about 200 copies per week, which reporter Ethan Fry and I plan to start dropping off at senior centers and libraries in Ansonia and Derby this week.

But the newsletter matches our mission — local news is a community service, plain and simple. And that’s why I am so grateful to Ever Ready Press at 78 Clifton Ave. for their assistance, and to my colleague Ethan for his layout expertise.

Happy New Year neighbors, and, as always, thank you for your support.
