Valley-Related 2022 Race Results

Josh Shuart's colorful campaign flyers. Shuart lost to incumbent state Rep. Kara Rochelle.

The following is a list of winners and vote tallies as observed Wednesday, Nov. 9 on the Secretary of State’s website.

The results show Election Day was a big day for incumbents. They won across the board. Three Republican incumbent state representatives did not face opponents.

In the contested races, state Sen. Eric Berthel, who represents parts of Seymour, had the largest winning percentage. He captured 59 percent of the vote against his opponent, according to the unofficial results.

Incumbent state Rep. Mary Welander, who represents part of Derby, had the second-largest victory on Tuesday, capturing about 58 percent of the vote.

State Rep. Kara Rochelle, a Democrat, won a third term by defeating her opponent, Josh Shuart, by capturing roughly 53 percent of the vote.

The race for the 104th was more competitive than previous years.

Rochelle won 56.9 percent of the vote when she was first elected in 2018. She won 59.6 percent of the vote when she was re-elected in 2020. Voter turnout was less this year compared to the two previous state election cycles.

Rochelle’s district has been a Democratic strong hold for more than a decade.

Shuart’s capture of roughly 47 percent of the vote is the strongest Republican showing since 2004, when Derby’s JR Romano captured 47.9 percent against Linda Gentile, a Democrat. The two were running to replace Vin Tonucci.

Gentile then captured roughly 87 percent of the vote in 2008, 66 percent in 2010, 75 percent in 2012, 66 percent in 2014, and 57 percent in 2016.

Here is a list of results. The results are still considered unofficial.
