The month of May not only heralds the beginning of the Spring season here in CT but it is also the time when we celebrate the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven’s (“CFGNH”) annual two-day nonprofit fundraising event known as “THE GREAT GIVE.”
Valley Shakespeare Festival is always looking for new and innovative ways to present its works so it’s no surprise it would choose to put its money where its mouth is and offer the public a taste of what it does best: perform!
Valley Shakespeare Festival, the Valley’s own nonprofit professional theater company, is participating again this year and hopes to raise substantial contributions by providing two free, open to the public, presentations of two of their upcoming productions.
On Tuesday, May 2nd the company will present a very special afternoon of “Tea with Twelfth Night” at TEA WITH TRACY, 16 Bank Street in Seymour. Included with Tracy’s traditional English Afternoon Tea menu, Valley Shakespeare Festival will present a sneak preview of scenes from its upcoming summer Park production of The Bard’s comedy Twelfth Night.
Admission is free, but reservations will be required as seating at the venue is limited.
If you can’t make it to the Tea (or if you just can’t get enough Shakespeare in your day!), fear not, because VSF will take to the stage again that evening at the Plumb Memorial Library, 65 Wooster Street in Shelton. At 7:00pm the company will present a full performance of this year’s touring production of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors. Again, the event is free and open to the public, but reservations will be required as seating at the Library is also limited.
Scheduled for Tuesday, May 2nd through Wednesday, May 3rd this year, the Great Give offers local nonprofit organizations a platform through which to raise much-needed dollars for their projects and operations. CFGNH and its many sponsors offer participating organizations various incentives and bonuses throughout the 48-hour event to help maximize donations contributed by the general public.
More information and reservations for Valley Shakespeare Festival’s free GREAT GIVE events will be available at through its website www.vsfestival.org or by calling 203 – 513-9446.
