After two months of diligent work by its Allocation Committee, Valley United Way’s Board of Directors has announced the awarding of $506,850 in allocations for the next twelve months.
The Board decision came at the end of a two month process that started with agencies submitting budget requests in May.
Twenty-four allocations committee volunteers working under the leadership of committee chair Adrienne Cabral then visited with the applicants to review their programs and budgets.
Following the visits, the volunteers met to review their findings and to make their recommendations to the Board of Directors which approved the allocations which cover the period from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.
One new agency, the Christian Counseling Agency in Shelton, joined the list of funded agencies this year.
Valley United Way has also begun a review of the allocations process and modifications are expected to be implemented next year.
The Board will also be implementing a new “Special Issues” grant program later this summer and will conduct its annual “Special Needs” grant program later this fall.
Board Chairman Fred Ortoli praised the work of the Allocations Committee noting that the committee spends a great deal of time ensuring that their helps to meet the needs of the community, but that there are never enough dollars to meet all the needs.
“The Allocations Committee does a tremendous job in making fair and equitable recommendations, and the Board appreciates all the volunteer time that goes into the process,” he said.
