Valley YMCA Names Executive Director

The Central Connecticut Coast YMCA has named Barbara Moore, Executive Director of the Valley YMCA in Ansonia CT, a Branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA.

Barbara brings a wealth of Y experience to the Valley. She will continue as the Association Membership Director and YMCAs Diabetes Prevention Program leader. While most recently, she served as the Stratford YMCA Program Executive and Association level Healthy Initiatives Director. 

Prior to this, she served as the Executive and Project Manager for a youth obesity initiative with the South Hampton Roads YMCA association in Virginia. Barbara’s career at the South Hampton Roads Y included positions as Health and Wellness Director, Associate Executive Director and Association Health and Well-Being Director.

Barbara has been involved with leading organizational change through the Gulick Collaborative and was a project leader for the Activate America Initiative. At the same time, she was an adjunct faculty for Old Dominion University in the Sports Management Program where she holds a graduate and undergraduate degree. She has also served in the United States Navy in aviation electronics. She was born and raised in Ansonia where she calls her home. 

The Valley Y has been a vital part of the Valley community since 1866 – serving the residents of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton. The Branch boosts a 6‑lane, 25 yard lap pool and has recently, renovated the Cardio and Strength Rooms. A wide variety of classes are offered, including Zumba, Water Exercises, Yogalates, Couch to 5K and Boot Camp.

Free child watch is available to members while they workout. After school child care and summer camp programs round out the variety of programs for people of all ages and interests.
