Vandals Target Oxford’s Gerski Drive

Police are investigating a vandalism spree that happened overnight Thursday on Kerski Drive.

Resident State Trooper Sgt. Dan Semosky said vandals painted offensive graffiti on the road at several spots. In addition, a stop sign and a street sign were stolen near the intersection of Griswold Road.

The graffiti included depictions of male genitalia, a pentagram and other indistinguishable markings. He believes that the vandalism was caused by kids, and should not be considered anything more than criminal mischief.

Police canvassed the neighborhood along Kerski Drive Thursday morning interviewing residents and searching for evidence.

Semosky said there have been reports of cars being broken into along nearby Chestnut Tree Hill Road near Naugatuck State Forest near the Middlebury town line.

He urged residents to lock their vehicles and not to leave items such as GPS devices, cell phones or mp3 players in their cars.

Semosky also said that surrounding towns have been notified of the incident and added that there will be increased patrols of the neighborhood.

We have sent out teletypes to other police departments to see if there have been any similar incidents in the area,” he said.

Public Works Director Wayne Wyatt said crews will be replacing the signs and power washing the road to remove the graffiti.

The work should be done by Friday.

Anyone with information about the vandalism should call police at (203) 888‑4353.
