ANSONIA — Two people were injured after being hit by a vehicle outside the Stop & Shop grocery store on Division Street Sunday.
Police are investigating.
According to a Facebook post from Ansonia Rescue and Medical Services (ARMS), a vehicle lost control and hit people on the sidewalk.
“One patient in particular was caught between the vehicle and a structural beam on the building, causing a significant leg injury,” according to the statement from ARMS.
Police Officer Mike Castillo was first on scene and helped the victim by applying a tourniquet.
Tyler Smith and John Kahyaoglu, emergency medical technicians from ARMS, arrived on scene, applied tourniquets and helped the badly injured person.
“All involved potentially saved this patient’s life,” according to the ARMS statement.
The driver who lost control of the vehicle was taken to the hospital, as was a third person who sustained a head injury.
WTNH described the driver as ​“elderly.”
