Video Shows Vehicle Crashing Into Ansonia House

ANSONIA — A 43-year-old man resident faces eight criminal charges after careening down streets in a populated neighborhood and crashing into a house Monday.

No one inside the house was injured. The crash was caught on camera, which can be seen in the news video above.

The driver, Eric Ricitelli, an Ansonia resident, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, driving without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, misusing plates, theft of license plate, evading responsibility, and, not surprisingly, reckless driving.

The incident started about noon Monday when Derby police notified Ansonia police about a blue car driving erratically on Derby Avenue (Route 115) heading toward Ansonia.

“Surveillance video from Platt Street showed the blue car driving at a high rate of speed the wrong way on Columbia Street from Main Street. The car struck the street sign at Columbia Street and Platt Street, continued across Platt Street striking the curb in front of 35 Platt Street causing the car to roll over into the yard of 35 Platt Street and strike the home. The home was unoccupied at the time of the accident and the home sustained minimal damage,” police said in a statement.

Ricitelli ran away after the crash while bleeding from his mouth, police said, but was captured a short time later on Main Street. He was carrying a crack pipe, police allege.
