Volunteers To Repair Seymour Military Vet’s Home

The Connecticut Chapter of House of Heroes, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free home repairs to military and public service veterans who cannot afford the repairs and/or are not physically capable of undertaking the repair work, will undertake one of their most ambitious veteran home-repair projects on behalf of Seymour veteran on Saturday, September 22 at 8 a.m.

Russell Machnicz (87 Years Old) of 214 Mountain Road in Seymour joined the United States Army Air Corp at the age of 18 in 1943. During his years of service to the country, Russell was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal and the American Campaign Ribbon.

Russell traveled around the world, providing radio tower construction, all before the age of 21.

As a civilian, the former Seagram Company employee has lived in his Mountain Road home in Seymour with his family for the past 46 years.

Mr. Machnicz’s story is similar to many veterans today, who find themselves on a difficult journey; House of Heroes is here for them in their time of need. House of Heroes provides essential home repair services which benefit the each individual veteran based on their situation. All of the work is accomplished through community volunteerism and all funding is provided through private and corporate donations.

As a U.S. military veteran, I have always taken great pride in the service I have provided to our country. With the assistance from our financial supporters and many volunteers, House of Heroes will be able to honor veterans like Mr. Machnicz, whose home has fallen on difficult times, by ensuring that they have a safe place to call home,” states Bill May, Chairman, House of Heroes, Connecticut. All contributions and our skilled volunteers bring us one step closer to achieve our goal of improving the lives of our heroes like Mr. Machnicz.”

To meet the costs associated with these projects, House of Heroes holds several fundraising events each year, and accepts personal and corporate donations. For more information, visit the House of Heroes website, www.HOHCT.org or call (203) 464‑2455.
