Update: Walk-A-Mile In Seymour Raises Thousands


First Selectman Kurt Miller and the employees of the Town of Seymour hosted Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes’ for breast cancer to benefit Seymour Pink, a local nonprofit organization. 

Local officials, employees, and residents (mostly men) dress and brave wearing heels and walk one mile from the Seymour Community Center to Hot Tamale’s for the cause on Sunday, Oct. 14.

Seymour Pink continues this Wednesday, Oct. 17, when it will officially be Seymour Pink Day” in Seymour.

Miller said in a press release issued Monday afternoon said the fundraiser was a huge success” and raised $6,385.95, more than we ever hoped for.”

I was honored to continue a tradition in town by hosting the event along with the employees of the Town of Seymour,” Miller said of the event, which drew 40 participants and many more spectators and supporters. I am grateful to lead a community where there is so much spirit and participation in town events. Walk a Mile’ gives the town a chance to give back to an organization that does so much for our community.”

The top fundraiser, and also recipient of the Looks Most like a Girl’ award, was Shane White, who donned a pink ribbon dress, pink wig, and false eyelashes. John Hannon and Timm Willis, dressed as twins, won Best Dressed’ and Best Shoes’, and for the third year in a row, Phil Whilhemy won Best Accessories.’ Others dressed in skirts or dresses that caught some eyes were Tim Wagner, Angel Hernandez, Aiden Vrlik, and Brendan Canty.

Miller thanked Christine Conroy, his administrative assistant for coordinating the entire event and public relations for it. He also recognized Dolores Conroy for coordinating and donating many of the gift baskets, Bert Volpacchio for hosting the luncheon at Hot Tamale’s, Jim Petzold at CT Digital Graphics for the banners, Hot Tops LLC for printing the T‑shirts, the Aimee’s Academy of Dance Ambassadors for leading the walk, the Seymour Police Department for providing escorts along the route, and Eagle Productions for DJ-ing at the luncheon.

He also thanked the Seymour Ambulance Association for all their help and spirit leading up to and during the event. Shannon McDaniel coordinated two benefit events for Walk a Mile and rallied her membership to participate in the event in addition to making a separate donation. After all they did, Seymour Ambulance Association was the second highest fundraiser for the event.”

Last but not least, Mary Deming must be recognized for her dedication to Seymour Pink and making Seymour number one in the fight against breast cancer!” Miller’s press release said.
