More than 320 participants attended the Wesley Village 5k Road Race and Fun Walk on a beautiful, sunny, Saturday morning on Aug. 24. Runners and walkers of all levels enjoyed the festivities!
Participants in the race ranged in age from 7 to 87, with 21 runners over the age of 70, including 6 participants in their 80s.
We were also honored to have three generations of runners from one family! It was a very competitive field for both men and woman this year, with our male champion coming from the Shelton High School Track team, Joseph Edlstein.
The female champion, Elizabeth Fengler, set a new course record for female participants. For race results and photos, please visit our website at www.wesleyvillage-ct.org.
The 1.5 mile Fun Walk consisted of a leisurely stroll through the campus of Wesley Village, with participants ranging in age from infants in strollers and to seniors over 90 years old.
New to this year’s event was a children’s fun run, which included 30 children running one quarter of a mile around the beautifully landscaped pond at Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center.
All children received race shirts, finishing ribbons, and an opportunity to sign their name on our “Winners’ Walk of Fame.” A bouncy house, face painting, snow cone machine, and popcorn also enhanced the morning for the kids.
All participants had the opportunity to win various gift cards from local establishments/businesses. The award ceremony was a huge success and featured egg sandwiches, fruit smoothies and lots of smiles!
We are so grateful for the support of over 50 local companies who helped to sponsor the event, with proceeds from the race benefiting Spooner House and the award-winning programs at Wesley Village, including the campus’ “Journey of Dreams” program, which grants lifelong wishes to the seniors on campus.
Thank you to all of our partners who helped make this day a success!
