Shelton police Wednesday charged a West Haven man with the knife-point robbery of a gas station last November.
Police served a warrant on Anthony Simons, 44, at Superior Court in Derby charging him with first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny.
Simons was expected to be arraigned on the charge Wednesday (Feb. 6).
Simons was developed as a suspect after police worked with Milford cops investigating a string of similar robberies, Detective Ben Trabka said in December.
Simons was arrested in Guilford in December in connection to a knife-point robbery there.
He has been jailed since his arrest in that case, and is now being held in lieu of bonds totaling more than $1 million.
The Shelton robbery occurred about 9:30 p.m. on the night of Nov. 30 at the Citgo gas station at 442 River Road, according to police.
Simons entered the store and made a purchase, police said, after which he leaned over the counter and displayed a knife, demanded money, and left.
“Nobody was injured during the incident and no other customers were inside the store when the incident occurred,” a press release issued Wednesday by Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said. “The arrest stems from an investigation by the detective bureau working in conjunction with other area detectives.”
Police elsewhere in the Valley have also been trying to determine whether Simons committed robberies in other towns.
Police in Ansonia were looking into whether Simons could have perpetrated a robbery at the XTra Mart convenience store on Wakelee Ave. on Dec. 3.
And Seymour police said Simons was a “strong suspect” in the robbery of a Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 34 a day before Simons’ arrest in Guilford.
