Robert Mulready, the man who bolted from his sentencing at Derby Superior Court in July, is back in prison awaiting his next court date.
But no one seems able to tell the Valley Indy how he got there.
Mulready, 36, ran out of Derby court house on July 26, as he was about to be scheduled to a year in prison for attempted burglary charges out of Seymour.
Mulready wrestled with a court marshal, before plowing head-first into the exit door, cracking the glass, according to an incident report from the marshal’s service.
He disappeared into the streets of Derby.
Judge Burton Kaplan immediately ordered Mulready re-arrested — sending out a prawn warrant that any police department could view if they took Mulready into custody.
State police started investigating, because state property was damaged during the incident.
A week after the incident, the Valley Independent Sentinel saw that the state Department of Corrections listed Mulready in custody at the New Haven Correctional Center.
But no one could answer how he got there.
Derby Police said they didn’t arrest him.
State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said Mulready wasn’t picked up by state police — even though the troopers are trying to get an arrest warrant to charge him for the fight and flight at Derby Court.
New Haven police didn’t have any record of arresting Mulready this year. (He’s been arrested there in the past — most recently in June 2010 for evading responsibility after a car accident there, according to a police spokesman.)
The state Department of Corrections spokespeople said they have no information about how Mulready got into their hands.
Court marshals on the state and local level couldn’t answer the question, either.
According to the state judicial website, a re-arrest order for Mulready is still pending in Derby.
