A wind advisory remains in effect for the lower Valley until 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
The rain has been pounding the region all day. A flood advisory was scheduled to be in effect until 3:15 p.m.
Charles Sampson, the newly-appointed director of the Derby Office of Emergency Management, said in an e-mail at 1:30 p.m. that officials are monitoring the situation.
“Although the Stevenson Dam is predicted to reach action stage sometime over the next few hours, this will not have an adverse affect on Derby’s low lying areas, McConney’s Grove, but will be monitored by Derby’s Emergency Operations Center personnel,” Sampson said. “The high winds may have a more adverse effect as the ground is saturated making the root systems of larger trees susceptible to these winds. Winds of a sustained 20 to 40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph are expected as the cold front moves through in the early evening hours.”
As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, emergency crews had responded to a smattering of reports of fallen wires in the Valley.
Neither United Illuminating nor CL&P were reporting any power failures Friday afternoon.
