Wind Storm Leaves Thousands Without Power

Tropical Storm Isaias passed through the area Tuesday, kicking up winds of up to 60 mph and causing more than 20,000 people to lose power in the lower Naugatuck Valley.

Here is how the power outage situation looked at 5 p.m. The wind is expected to be an issue locally until about 10 p.m.

Ansonia: 5,019 customers (58.6 percent of all customers) without power

Beacon Falls: 50 (1.7 percent)

Derby: 2,675 (41.7 percent)

Naugatuck: 1,275 (8.7 percent)

Oxford: 3,112 (54.6 percent)

Seymour: 2,044 (26.6 percent)

Shelton: 7,874 (42.2 percent)

Here is a partial list of calls for service (and reader-reported issues) that emergency responders received between about 2:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday.

2:18 p.m. Ansonia was already at a report of a fire at a resident in the area of 4 High Acres Road. Quickly placed under control.

2:19 p.m. Pulaski & Reservoir, Ansonia, report of a tree on a car

2:21 p.m. Seymour FD asked to standby while Ansonia responds to possible structure fire (at the aforementioned High Acres Road).

2:24 p.m. Report of a tree into a house in Shelton (I didn’t catch the street).

2:29 p.m. (Twitter) NVHD closed at 2 p.m. due to the inclement weather from Tropical Storm Isaias.

2:33 p.m. (Facebook) Derby City Hall will be closed at 2:30 today due to the weather. Please stay safe and off the roads if you can.

3:33 p.m. Naugatuck police on Twitter: Naugatuck Police are currently responding to numerous tree and wire down incidents as a result of the storm. Residents are advised to remain indoors and off roadways for the storm.

3:34 p.m. Ford Street at Martin Terrace in Ansonia: female trapped under tree but no injuries reported. Sounds like she got out of the car but can’t get out of the tree.” Person was treated by EMS.

3:50 p.m. The state on Twitter: All #CTDMV offices are currently closed due to inclement weather. Appointments scheduled for 3:45pm or later on August 4, 2020 have been cancelled.

3:54 p.m. Wires down, North State Street, Ansonia.

3:54 p.m. Report of a tree on a house, Colony Street in Seymour. Arriving units saying at least three trees down on separate houses.

4 p.m. My mom in NY reports it’s all calm there but they lost power. Generator in use.

4:09 p.m. Tree on a house, Oxford Road, Oxford.

4:10 p.m. Tree down, Beardsley Road, Shelton.
