A woman was sent to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation after a fire gutted her Booth Hill Road home Friday morning.
The woman had gotten out of the house by the time firefighters arrived, Assistant Chief Paul Wilson said at the scene. EMS personnel then took her to the hospital.
About 30 firefighters from Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Co. 1, Huntington Fire Co. 3, and White Hills Co. 5, as well as Trumbull fire crews, responded to the fire, at 730 Booth Hill Road, about 9 a.m., Wilson said.
“Crews on scene found a bedroom well-involved,” Wilson said. “We got a quick knockdown on it with assistance from Nichols Fire Department. As of right now, they’re still conducting some overhaul, looking for hotspots.”

The one-story home was gutted, with heavy charring visible from the outside. Firefighters remained on scene, spraying water on hotspots and making sure there were no more flare-ups. Firefighters from Monroe and Derby responded to cover calls in Shelton while crews were at the scene of the blaze.

“There was extensive heat throughout the entire house,” Wilson said. “Heavy heat and smoke damage throughout.”
One firefighter got some debris in his eye while fighting the blaze, Wilson said, but the injury was not serious.
Fire Marshal James Tortora is investigating.
“We know it started in the bedroom but we don’t know the exact cause yet,” Tortora said at 10 a.m.
