SEYMOUR — A woman handing out candy to kids at a bus stop Thursday was investigated by police who determined .… well, that she was a woman handing out candy to kids at a bus stop with the permission of their parents and/or guardians.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Seymour police said they received a call at 8:35 a.m. about a suspicious female passing out candy” to school kids waiting for a bus on Walnut Street.

The investigation determined a 52-year-old woman walked up to parents and guardians at the bus stop. She asked whether the kids could have candy.

One group of adults said no. Those kids got no candy.

Another group of adults responded in the affirmative. Those kids got candy.

This account was later verified by surveillance video.

Police noted the candy was contained within sealed packages.

Police did not identify the brand.

Some of the students and their guardians told the bus company about the free candy.

The bus company told police about the free candy.

Officers and detectives worked in conjunction with Seymour School Security Staff, School Staff and All Star Transportation. Upon reviewing video from the bus cameras, the female was identified and quickly located,” police said.

Law enforcement determined neither the woman nor her candy harbored malicious intent or ill will.”

In 2018, The Des Moines Register published a story about Bob Candy Man’ Williams, an Iowa resident who gave out Hershey chocolate bars every day for 10 years.

ABC News featured Williams in one of those uplifting, end-of-the-broadcast segments, too:
