Firefighters made quick work of a kitchen fire before it could spread through an apartment on Liberty Street Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was out at 4:08 p.m., roughly 15 minutes after it was reported.
Ansonia Fire Department Captain Anthony DeLucia said firefighters saw smoke coming out the front door when they arrived on the scene. They ran hoses into the apartment to extinguish the blaze.
There was at least one residence inside when the fire started. She got out unharmed.
Firefighters had to break the apartment’s front windows to vent smoke.
The kitchen was gutted, but the other areas of the two-story apartment were not seriously damaged.
Red Cross was notified in case the residents need a place to stay.
The fire was in the Liberty Park complex, a densely-populated collection of attached apartments.
The fire marshal’s office was still on the scene investigating as of 5 p.m.
