‘Year of The Lizard’ At The Kellogg Environmental Center

DEEP PHOTOThe Kellogg Environmental Center in Derby is highlighting animals that seem to thrive in summertime weather.

This year has been designated as the Year of the Lizard” by Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation. In conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Wildlife Division a program on reptiles, including lizards, is scheduled on June 16 at 10:30 a.m.

The program event will feature live reptiles from Connecticut Beardsley Zoo.

Live lizards and other reptiles will come to the Center to help participants understand the variety of adaptations they have to help them survive.

You can see close-up the features common and unique to reptiles. Connecticut is home to only one lizard, the common five-lined skink.

The skink is so rare here in Connecticut it is considered a threatened species. Come and get all the facts as we explore the world of lizards.

The program is open to all ages and we encourage families to participate.

There is no charge to attend the program, donations are welcome.

The Kellogg Environmental Center, a facility of the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is located at 500 Hawthorne Avenue, Derby, CT. Please call to register to attend this program, 203 – 734-2513.
