Zoning Commission Feels Owner’s Pain

The Splash” car wash on Bridgeport Avenue may have struck black gold as the Planning and Zoning Commission this week leaned toward approving two bays for oil changes.

The car wash owners said they need the approvals to stay in business because just being a car wash doesn’t cut it in a sour economy.

At its meeting Tuesday night in City Hall, members of the board reached a favorable consensus” regarding the 376 Bridgeport Ave. business, said Rick Schultz, the Shelton Zoning Administrator.

The board is slated to officially vote on the proposal Nov. 24.

Finally,” said Dominick Thomas, the attorney representing the business.

However, commissioners had a few suggestions after zoning officials recently visited the site.

Zoning Consultant Anthony Panico said officials recommended painting lines in the parking lot to maximize the number of spaces, while changing some of the parking lot’s layout.

The board will also get to review the impact of the expanded business will have on the local roads in a year, an option that Thomas had previously offered the board.

If they approve, the car wash could add a third oil-change bay.

The suggestions they made were reasonable,” Thomas said Tuesday, adding that the bays would not open for a few months.

There are several other oil-changing businesses in the area, including Curtis-Ryan Honda at 333 Bridgeport Ave., which sent a letter opposing the request.
