2018 Derby Farmers Market Is Underway

In order to harbor a sense of community, as well as to provide a venue to purchase healthy and fresh foods, the Derby Green in conjunction with the Derby Cultural Commission, will host the 3rd season of the Derby Green Farmers’ Market on Tuesdays, from July to October, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Farmers’ Market Committee has been working diligently to get everything in motion for the Market’s July 10th opening. Of course, there will be the usual fresh and locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs, as well as baked goods (both gluten free and sugar free) honey, eggs, and organic meats like other years.

But this year we will have a few new things as well. First of all, this year’s market will coincide with the summer concerts on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm, giving patrons entertainment as well as a chance to purchase healthy food. In addition, we will be offering the brand new Power of Produce, or POP club, for Derby students grades K through 5 to learn about farmers’ markets and healthy eating.

This was made possible with a grant from the Valley Community Foundation. And last but not least, we are also offering a doubling program for seniors who receive state Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers through a grant from the State of Connecticut Department of Agriculture.

A few other things to know about the market: we are certified by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture as a WIC Market and are dedicated to selling only Connecticut grown or produced products. We accept cash, charge, and WIC checks as methods of payment.

And finally, we are always looking for new vendors to become part of our Market.

For more information on how to become a vendor, please call 203 – 231-4034 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). See you at the Market!
