Derby: Popcorn Ball Sunday Is Dec. 16 AND Dec. 23

Derby Storms during a Popcorn Ball Sunday a few years back.

WARNING DO NOT READ THIS STORY, READ THIS UPDATE INSTEAD, OK?

If you live in west Derby, listen for sirens between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 16) and prepare to catch some super-sticky popcorn balls.

If you live on the hilltop in east Derby, listen for the sirens Sunday, Dec. 23.

The annual event features firefighters tossing the gooey chewy goodies from the tops of firetrucks.

Here’s the flyer Hotchkiss Hose posted on Facebook:

Keep in mind Popcorn Ball Sunday is unpredictable due to the possibility of calls for service.

In addition, it’s impossible for the firefighters to hit every street in the city. It’s also tough to gauge when they’ll be on a particular road.

Keep your ears open and fingers crossed, and greet the volunteer firefighters warmly!
