Emails Trigger Evacuations In Seymour, Investigation Underway

State and local police are investigating a series of suspicious” emails received Thursday.

The emails — described as bomb threats by various outlets — are happening all over the U.S. Click this link for a story.

According to state police, troopers from Montville were sent to Griswold Elementary School at 1:10 p.m.

It was reported that school administrators received an email which was suspicious in nature,” according to a statement from state police.

As a precautionary measure, the elementary school has been evacuated and members of the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) are on scene conducting an investigation into the matter,” police said.

At about 4:20 p.m., state police updated the earlier statement, saying the emails were part of a nationwide incident.

In the course of the investigation, which is active and ongoing, it was determined that multiple states across the country were receiving similar threatening correspondents – affecting all sectors, both public and private. Each email contained similar verbiage. To date, none of the threats were found to be creditable but we strongly encourage anyone who may receive a suspicious email, to immediately call 911.”

At about 1:50 p.m., Seymour emergency responders were sent to the Seybridge Plaza shopping center on New Haven Road for a reported bomb scare. The businesses there — Dunkin Donuts, Hot Tamale’s restaurant, among many others — were evacuated.

According to emergency radio dispatches, Seymour crews were also sent for a similar threat in the area of Progress Drive about a mile away from the first incident.

The National Shooting Association in Newtown also received a threat, according to state police.

Our Cyber Crimes Investigative Unit and Connecticut Intelligence Center (CTIC) are currently working to identify the source of the emails that are circulating across various agencies in the state,” state police said.
