Hamden Man Charged In Fatal Shelton Crash

A Hamden man was racing before a crash in Shelton that killed two people in April, according to Shelton police.

The man, 19-year-old Abdulaziz Yuldoshev, was arrested Monday.

Police said more arrests are expected in the case.

The crash, which occurred April 8 near 661 River Road, killed Shalymar Herrera, 18, of West Haven, and Briana Torres-Carter, 23, of Bridgeport.

Torres-Carter was pregnant, according to police.

In a prepared statement, Detective Christopher Nugent said Yuldoshev surrendered to police Monday after they had obtained an arrest warrant in connection with the crash.

Police charged Yuldoshev with two counts of first-degree manslaughter, two counts of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, four counts of first-degree assault, and illegal racing on a highway.

Yuldoshev was released after posting a $50,000 and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby June 28.

Additional arrests are excepted in this investigation,” Nugent said.

At the time of the crash, police said Herrera and Torres-Carter were passengers in a Mini Cooper going south on River Road when it collided with a Saturn traveling north.

The driver of the Mini Cooper was 19-year-old Lawrence Carter of Bridgeport, who sustained critical injuries in the crash, police said.

Nugent said Yuldoshev was behind the wheel of a third, non-contact” vehicle involved.
