Valley Indy Radio: I Was Triggered By A New York Times Puff Piece

OK, this episode of Navel Gazing: The Valley Indy Podcast” is a little weird, I guess.

The NY Times recently did a Living In” feature on my hometown of Somers, N.Y., an affluent New York City suburb.

It stirred some feelings in me, and I was in a bad mood to begin with, so I invited two people I went to school with from Somers on the podcast to learn whether the article bothered them.

We talk about bullying, being poor, unchecked residential development, being single in a yuppie bedroom community, and what it’s like to watch as your neighborhood transforms from working class to wealthy.

Guest Brian Spears is a special effects makeup guy with an IMDB credit list as long as my arm.

Guest Shannon Heuston channeled her grade-school suffering into The Playground,” a well-received novel.

At the start of the podcast I go over a few things happening this month in the Valley, including:

  • An update on the Ansonia v Ansonia lawsuit
  • A scheduled state of the city” in Derby
  • An upcoming public hearing on a 50-foot-tall water tank to be built in west Derby
  • A food collection organized by the Derby Town Clerk’s office.

Press play to listen.
