Letter: Ansonia Residents Thank Inspirational Priest

Father James Sullivan departs on a 300-mile fundraising trip from Ansonia to Canada in 2016.

In a day and age where so many can justify their reasons for separating from their Parish, here in Ansonia we’ve seen one individual – Father James Sullivan – infuse newfound faith and devotion at Assumption Church.

With seemingly endless energy, passion and drive he singlehandedly brought on a period of re-birth to the Assumption Parish. As parishioners of the Assumption Church for our entire lives, witnessing this resurgence was simply awe inspiring.

THANK YOU, Father Sullivan, for the love you have shown our Parish. Please know you have truly made an amazing impact in our little piece of this world.

Father James Sullivan had the ability to not only ignite one’s own faith, but to drive individuals to want to share that faith with others. Our Parish has never been so lively – or beautiful.

Father Sullivan, a carpenter by trade, not only healed the foundations of our Parish’s faith, but also took it upon himself to complete numerous beautification and restorative projects.

His impact has been far reaching – from biking and leading a pilgrimage to Canada to raise money to fund the renovation of the Assumption School gym (which was out of use for 30+ years), restoring the stations of the cross to their original grander, commissioning the beautiful chapel artwork – his projects are too numerous to list. But their impact was obvious – both visually and spiritually.

At this end of this month, Father James Sullivan will join another parish in our Archdioceses.

Our loss will be the gain of the parishioners of the Basilica Of The Immaculate Conception in Waterbury. Father Sullivan, though our hearts are heavy, we wish you the best as you continue on in your spiritual journey. Thank you for being such an inspiring and important catalyst for faith, hope and love at Assumption. You will truly be missed.
