Here’s information on Memorial Day observances and parades.

ANSONIA MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

Sunday, May 27, 2018
2 p.m.

The parade will start at Nolan Field and proceed down Wakelee Avenue, turning left onto Jackson Street and then across the Maple Street bridge before turning right onto Main Street and past a reviewing stand at City Hall.

SEYMOUR MEMORIAL SERVICE AND PARADE

Reviewing stand in downtown Seymour at the corner of Bank Street and Main Street

Parade
11:30 a.m.
The parade will start at French Memorial Park and proceed west on New Haven Road (Route 67) to Main Street where it will turn left and head to the downtown area.

It will then proceed on Main Street to Broad Street, turn right across the bridge and disband at the Seymour Community Center.

Members of the Sikh community will be passing out ice cream bars free of charge along the route.

This year’s Grand Marshall will be Ron Callanan. He served in the Army from 1966 – 1972 including active duty from 1966 – 1968 in Vietnam with the 1/9 Air Cavalry. He was awarded the Air Medal as well as the Bronze Star. He also served as a member of the Memorial Day Parade Committee until recently stepping down.

Route: Shelton to Derby
Begins at Howe and Wharf Streets in Shelton
Ends at Cottage and Elizabeth Streets in Derby

Immediately after the parade, there will be a brief ceremony to unveil the fabulously restored Civil War monument at the top of the Derby Green (corner of Fifth and Elizabeth streets).

Shelton police announced the following streets will be closed to all traffic starting at 8:30 a.m.:

  • Howe Avenue between White and Bridge streets
  • Coram Avenue between Kneen and White streets
  • White Street
  • Bridge Street

Starting at 7 a.m., Howe Avenue will be closed to traffic between Center and Wharf streets, as well as all side streets and parking lots in between.
