A 30-year-old Monroe man is out of the hospital after being thrown into the Housatonic River last week.
The man was involved in an altercation on the Derby-Shelton Bridge about 12:50 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 23) before being thrown into the water below, police said in prepared statement.
Police and firefighters responded and spotted the victim under the bridge.
The victim’s name has not been released.
Shelton Police Officer David Eldridge and firefighters rescued the man and pulled him to the river’s shore.
The man was then taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.
Shelton Police Detective Christopher Nugent said in an email Monday (Nov. 26) that the victim was released from the hospital over the weekend.
He needed several stitches to wounds on his head, Nugent said.
He declined to say whether any suspects have been identified.
He said detectives are continuing to work the case and hope to have further developments to report soon.
“The investigation is ongoing, will follow with an updated release over the next couple days,” Nugent said.

Mario Dias, 30, of Derby, was driving by when he saw the commotion, he told The Valley Indy last week.
“I saw people screaming for help and a man with no shirt running up and down the bridge,” Dias said. “I pulled over and asked what was wrong, I was told by a bystander that a man was thrown off the bridge. I tried to locate where he had fallen while another man was on the phone with emergency service.”
The incident occurred the night before Thanksgiving, referred to locally as “Valley New Year’s,” an extremely busy night for bars in downtown Derby and Shelton.
The bridge connects the two downtowns.
The night of “Valley New Year’s” in 2013 the bridge was the site of a hit-and-run accident in which two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle.
The driver in that case was sentenced to a three-year prison term, according to court records.
