SHELTON — Four teens were arrested Thursday in connection to an attempted carjacking near Huntington Street.
According to police, a woman was in a car with her 13-year-old daughter when she stopped in the community center parking lot to mail a letter about 9 p.m.
After the woman got out of her car, a Subaru pulled up and a man got out.
He demanded her keys and shoved her to the ground, police said.
The woman’s daughter began screaming. The suspect got back into the Subaru and took off. There were three other people in the car with the suspect, police allege.
Shortly after, police received a call about a car burglary on Fern Drive. The suspect’s vehicle matched the description of the vehicle fleeing the attempted carjacking.
Police sent out an all-points bulletin alerting surrounding towns of the car and the crimes.
The Subaru then crashed on White Plains Road in Trumbull, where police snagged one of the suspects. Trumbull police determined the car had been stolen out of Bridgeport.
The three other suspects ran away, but were captured a short time later, police said.
Three of the suspects are underage. Their names were not released to the public.
They were charged with second-degree robbery aided by another, carjacking, third-degree assault, third-degree criminal attempt, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, and several other crimes.
Police released the name of 18-year-old Antone Grant Chalmers of Stratford. He’s due to be arraigned in court June 1.
The other suspects included a 16-year-old from Bridgeport, and a 16- and a 17-year-old from Stratford.
