Police Probe Fatal Ansonia Crash

Police investigate a fatal crash that occurred Sept. 23 at the intersection of Bridge Street and Main Street in Ansonia.

ANSONIA A 78-year-old man died after an early morning crash downtown Sunday.

In a prepared statement, Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said the accident occurred 5:20 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Bridge Street.

One of the vehicles involved in the crash hit a building — 290 Main St. Firefighters used the jaws of life” to remove a person trapped inside the vehicle, according to a Facebook post from Ansonia Rescue and Medical Services.

The accident involved three vehicles and a driver of one of the vehicles, identified as Garrett Dalton, age 78, of Ansonia, suffered serious injuries,” Lynch said. Dalton was transported to an area hospital for treatment but died as a result of his injuries early Monday morning.”

Lynch’s statement did not identify anyone else involved in the crash.

Lynch said the accident is still under investigation with the assistance of Orange and Woodbridge police.

On Monday Main Street was closed between Tremont Street and Water Street as detectives investigated.

Lynch asked any witnesses to come forward.

The Ansonia Police Department is requesting anyone who may have witnessed the accident to please contact the department at 203 – 735-1885,” he said.
