An Oxford man serving 45 years in prison for murdering his wife and shooting his mother-in-law has died in prison, WTNH reports.
The cause and manner of death were not released.
In 2014, Scott Gellatly forced his way into his mother-in-law’s house in Oxford in order attack his wife, Lori Jackson.
At his court sentencing he tried to paint himself as some sort of victim and claimed he had made a mistake.
But Judge Frank Iannotti would have none of it.
“Taking your wife’s life and trying to take your mother-in-law’s life and essentially leaving your children as orphans is not a mistake,” the judge said.
Jackson was an air bureau analyst for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. She was a member of the Seymour Congregational Church and was survived by her two children and extended family.
She had received a temporary restraining order against Gellatly. He shot and killed her the day before a court hearing on a permanent restraining order was scheduled.
State lawmakers later passed a law allowing guns to be taken away in cases where temporary restraining orders had been placed.
Lori’s mother, Merry, who had been shot four times, has become an advocate calling for better policies to protect and help victims of domestic violence.
