DERBY — A new restaurant in the city, Moe’s Southwest Grill, is scheduled to hold an opening-day ribbon-cutting ceremony 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, Mayor Rich Dziekan’s office announced Thursday.

Moe’s officially opens at 11 a.m.

Moe’s is at 44 Pershing Drive, which has undergone a rebirth over the last decade.

The former Valley Bowl property was redeveloped and Red Raider Plaza was repurposed. New arrivals include an Aldi’s grocery store, Panera Bread, Pet Valu, Planet Fitness, a walk-in medical clinic, Wayback Burgers and Jersey Mike’s.

There are more than 700 Moe’s in the U.S., including 10 in Connecticut. The first restaurant opened 19 years ago in Atlanta. The chain recently opened in New Jersey and offered free weekly burritos to the first 100 customers.
