Summer Reading Block Party In Ansonia

A line-up of live entertainment, a petting zoo, a dunk tank, and a self-contained soft play activity center for youth are among the offerings on tap for the first-ever Summer Reading Rocks Block Party. 

The free event will be held on the grounds of Christ Church across from the Ansonia Library on South Cliff Street on Saturday, June 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rain date is June 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Al deCant, also known as the singing principal” will provide the opening performance at 11 a.m. Leo’s Comedy Show takes the stage at noon, followed by Lynn’s Sing a Long at 1 p.m.

Connecticut author Ryan SanAngelo, author of Eddie Spaghetti” and several other books will wrap up the live entertainment with a performance at 2 p.m.

There will also be several traveling performers throughout the day, including a balloon artist, a visitor from Colonial America, a magician, and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers mascot.

Ansonia children are eligible to receive a free backpack, water bottle and summer reading books.

Raffle tickets will also be provided, with a large number of prizes available, including two bicycles, a summer pass to Lake Quassapaug, and many others. 

The raffle will be held at 3 p.m., and raffle holders must be present in order to win.

A free picnic lunch will also be available to attendees. 

There will be a number of local organizations on hand to distribute free information about their services and programs, and face painting artists will be available as well.

The Ansonia Public Schools and the Ansonia Library are co-sponsoring this event, which is being planned in conjunction with the conclusion of the 2017 – 18 school year and a celebration to the start of summer. 

Funding for this first-ever event is being provided by the State of Connecticut through grants awarded to Ansonia Public Schools.
