Adrea A. Sturges

Adrea A. Sturges, 94, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 17, 2016, at Hewitt Health & Rehab in Shelton. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin H. Sturges Sr.

Mrs. Sturges was born in New Haven on Nov. 30, 1921, daughter of the late Harvey and Esther Doane Andrews. She grew up in New Haven and following her marriage, moved to Derby for many years, ultimately making permanent residence in Ansonia. Mrs. Sturges was employed at the former Howard & Barber in Derby and later as a secretary for the former Capital Distributing in Derby. She was active in the P.T.A. in Derby during her children’s grammar school years and was a member of the Derby Senior Center and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24 in Derby. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle fan and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by loving sons, Edwin Sturges, Jr. (Mary) of Milford, Richard Sturges (Patricia) of Ansonia and Robert Sturges (Jody) of Lamar, CO, loving daughters, Beverly Sturges (William Prihoda) of Ansonia and Susan Cox (John) of Hythe, England, 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Lester Andrews and sisters, Dorothy Ellis and Shirley Paule.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay respects and visit the family on Thursday February 25, 2016, from 5 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 7:00 pm, a funeral service in celebration of Adrea’s life will take place with Rev. James Midgley officiating. Burial will be private.
