Agnes Aquila

Agnes Aquila, 87, peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 19, 2016, at Griffin Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Peter V. Aquila Sr.

Mrs. Aquila was born in Ansonia on December 28, 1928, daughter of the late John and Michelina Castro Ferla. She spent most of her life in Ansonia before moving to Seymour twenty-two years ago. She was employed as a grocery clerk at the former Stop & Shop in Derby for thirty years until her retirement. Agnes was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia where she played in the bocce league and volunteered in the pizza booth at the annual Italian Festival. She was a member of the Ansonia Senior Center, Red Hat Society and enjoyed playing cards with the chit-chat girls, pinochle with her husband and close friends, traveling, dancing and Sunday dinners with family. Agnes was known for her delicious anjanette cookies and cream puff pastries. She was a dedicated fan of both the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams, the NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys.

In addition to her husband Peter, she is survived by loving sons, Peter V. Aquila Jr. (Donna) of Seymour and Joseph J. Aquila of Ansonia, a loving daughter, Anne Aquila of Shelton, cherished grandchildren, Peter J. Aquila, Leanne McKenna (Michael), Marissa Blundell (Shane), Christopher Aquila (Anna), Nicholas Aquila, Amanda Aquila and Anthony Parrish, eight great-grandchildren, sister in law, Mary Ann Groves (Tom) of Seymour and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Ferla.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday June 22, 2016, from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral at 10:00 am (PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY) at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Mausoleum in Derby. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Agnes’s memory may be made to the Spooner House through the funeral home.
