Agnes “Chic” Ahearn Clapes

Mrs. Agnes Chic” Ahearn Clapes, 80, of 72 Kings Highway, died Wednesday at the Griffin Hospital. 

She is the widow to Joseph A. Chaunce” Clapes Jr.

She was born in Ansonia on Dec. 19, 1929, daughter to the late Michael J. and Mary M. McLaughlin Ahearn.

She retired as a secretary/bookkeeper for the City of Shelton and was a communicant at the St. Joseph Church of Shelton, a graduate of Assumption School and the Ansonia High School. 

She was past president of VARCA.

Survivors are one daughter, Chris and her husband Bill Hayes of Shelton, two sons J. Alan (Butch) and his wife Mary Lou Clapes of Shelton, and James and the late Betty Clapes of Shelton. Two brothers, Robert and his wife Marge Ahearn of Naugatuck, John (Jack) and his wife Mary Ann Ahearn of Ansonia, and six grandchildren: Jason, Jeremy and Jared Hayes; Jeffrey, Timothy and Nicole Clapes. 

She is also survived by four great-grandsons: Jordan, Ethan, Jacob and Ryan Clapes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

She is predeceased by two brothers: Michael and James Ahearn. 

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m., from the Bennett Funeral Home at 91 North Cliff Street in Ansonia to the Church of the Assumption for a mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.

Friends are invited to her burial service Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 – 7 p.m.
