Alan D. Simpson, age 99, peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 4, 2021, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth M. Daley Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was born at home in Ansonia on April 2, 1922, son of the late Norman Walker Simpson and Elizabeth Smythe Simpson. A lifelong resident of the Ansonia community, he was employed as a metallurgist at the former Chromium Process in Shelton and later at Bridgeport Metal Goods. He also worked at the former Reichelt’s Florist in Ansonia. A proud veteran, he honorably served in World War 2 as a medic in the United States Army Air Corp. Alan was a talented artist and woodworker that enjoyed hand-painting scenic and landscape pictures, building model ships and making custom bird houses for family and friends. He was also an accomplished harmonica player. Alan was a member St. Joseph Church and the Church of the Assumption both in Ansonia and the Ansonia, Derby, Shelton and Woodbridge Senior Centers where he enjoyed to dance and line dance.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, David A. Simpson and his fiancée, Dale DeVellis of Ansonia, loving daughters, Sharon L. Bostic and her husband, Grover D. Bostic Jr. of Ansonia and Laura M. Novak and her husband Nicholas of Bristol, loving sweetheart, Linda T. Matyasovszky of Ansonia, grandchildren, Daniel L. Bostic (Silvia) of Naugatuck, Jonathan W. Bostic (Evamarie) of Manchester, Edward A. Simpson, Anne M. Simpson and Catherine E. Simpson all of Phoenix, AZ, Erika M. Novak and Jill A. Novak of Bristol, great-grandchildren, Jonaesha J. Bostic, Avery C. Bostic, Emerson D.C. Bostic, Naomi M. Bostic and Lilly N. Hart as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Justin D. Bostic, brothers, Stanley, Howard, Norman and Gilbert Simpson and a sister, Elizabeth “Lily” Budd.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday morning September 9, 2021, from 9:00 to 11:00 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 11:00 am, a Catholic prayer service will take place with Rev. Mitchell Wanat officiating. The family requests that masks be worn inside the funeral home. Entombment with United States Air Force military honors will immediately follow in Mount Saint Peter’s Garden Mausoleum in Derby.
