Alan J. Tyma, Esquire, age 73, peacefully passed into God’s hands on February 16, 2025, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband of forty-three years to Mary Ann Grinchis Tyma.Born in New Haven on July 11, 1951, he was the son of the late John and Anna Vershish Tyma.
Alan was a resident of Woodbridge and a native long-time Valley supporter for over thirty years. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in West Haven and went on to attend Fairfield University and the University of Connecticut School of Law.
He was a practicing attorney in Shelton for over forty years.
Alan was a pillar of the Community having a significant impact on all he was involved with including: the corporation counsel for the city of Derby, chairing and serving on boards for Griffin Hospital, The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, The New Haven Community Foundation, The Valley Community Foundation, Massaro Community Farm, and many other municipal groups throughout his life.
He was also a proud recipient of the Gold and Platinum seal awards.
In his leisure, Alan was an avid golfer and a member and former President of Oak Lane Country Club in Woodbridge and most recently a member of Blackhawk Country Club in Stratford.
In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Alan leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Christiana Tyma of Woodbridge, a son, Brendan Tyma (Amanda) of Woodbridge, adoring grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papu,” Isabella, Hayleigh, Ethan, Benjamin, Emmett, Hazel, and Harper, all of Woodbridge.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.
On Friday morning, all are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial by meeting directly at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 81 Center Road in Woodbridge at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby.
