Albena R. Cammarata, 92, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday morning October 17, 2011, in the comfort of her home.
Miss Cammarata was born in Ansonia on March 6, 1919, daughter of the late Vincenzo and Concettina Nicoletti Cammarata. She was a graduate of Ansonia High School in 1937, where she received honors excelling in shorthand. After passing the CT Business Test, she was employed by the State in Hartford and later received a job in Washington, DC. Miss Cammarata then became employed for the US Coast Guard in Washington as an accountant and budget analyst and quickly ascended through the ranks earning the title of Chief of Accounting in the Budget Branch of the Budget Division. She retired from the US government in 1974 and received a retirement party in her honor at Fort McNair Officer’s Club in Camp David. She returned to Derby, CT, worked at H & R Block Accounting Services for some time and retired after operating her own accounting business for ten years.
She is survived by two beloved sisters, Maria “Mary” Lonardo of Derby and Michalena “Mickey” Sampieri of Ansonia, a brother in law, Brian R. Reardon of Chicago, IL, nieces and nephews, Ronald DeGregoria, Michael Lonardo, Vincent Tonucci, Rose Marie Garceau, Ann Marie Bagley, and Marguerite Gagnon and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Nicholas and Attileo Cammarata, sisters, Rose DeGregoria, Helen L. Reardon and Burina Tonucci, and a nephew James Cammarata.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday October 21, 2011, at 9:15am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Entombment will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Garden Mausoleum in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on THURSDAY from 4 – 7 pm.
