Alex was the last of their eight children to depart this world. He was a resident of Seymour for most of his life. A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the United States Army. Alex first served in the Army Specialized Training Program, then in Germany during World War II where he was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received as a result of enemy action.
Upon his return to the US after the war, he studied at the University of Connecticut and attained a Bachelor’s degree in 1949.
Alex had a long, successful career as a cost estimator for the Farrell Corporation in Ansonia, until his retirement at age sixty.
In his earlier years, he and his late wife Shirley enjoyed traveling. He was a former passionate chess player and an avid lifelong reader, especially fond of English Detective Novels. At the age of 100, he was still able to quote poems from The Pocket Book of Verse, a book he carried with him in the Second World War.
