Alice Leola Le Compte

Alice Leola Le Compte, age 93, wife of the late Ferdinand Le Compte and resident of New Haven, entered into eternal rest on September 29 at Arden House Health Care in Hamden. 

She was born Sept. 2, 1917 in Darlington, S.C., daughter of the late Alex & Elizabeth Gatison. 

She worked as a nursing assistant at Laurel Heights in Shelton and was a member of the Union Temple U.F.W.B. Church in New Haven, where she also served as church mother and sang on the Gospel Chorus. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Eloise Hawkins of New Haven & Donna Langley of Greenville, N.C., two brothers Artis Gatison of Atlanta, Georgia & Calvin Gatison of Brockton, Mass., her sister Bernetha Hughs of Cheraw, S.C., and 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. 

She was predeceased by three brothers, Gonzales Black and Isiah & James Gatison, and three sisters Lula Mae Bristow, Ruth Coe & Elizabeth McClellan and one granddaughter Cherie Harper. Funeral services will be held on Monday, 10:00 a.m. from the Union Temple U.F.W.B. Church, 54 Platt St. New Haven. 

Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. There are no calling hours. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the charity of one’s choice.
